Troop 457 Summer Camp at Medicine Mountain, South Dakota
Troop' 457’s week-long summer campout was spent this year at Camp Medicine Mountain in South Dakota. The camp was enjoyable and staff were friendly to the scouts, with some scouts even considering coming back to staff the camp in the following years.
The weather was nice all week, which contributed to the scouts’ enjoyment.
There were plenty of merit badges and other activities done during the week, including the infamous Polar Bear Plunge, where scouts challenge themselves to go into freezing cold water.
Abundant amounts of food were provided, which the scouts themselves cooked, then cleaned the cooking ware when they were done cooking. Most scouts got practice cooking and cleaning.
On Wednesday, we left the camp to visit monuments including Evan’s Plunge with an Olympic-size swimming pool, Wind Cave National Park where we took a tour, and Mount Rushmore, where we had the original Ben Franklin Ice Cream.
